Hero Motocorp Partners with US-based electric motorcycle brand Zero Motorcycles to co-develop new electric motorcycle for India
Popular US-based electric automaker, Zero Motorcycles is partnering with Hero Motocorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler company, to develop its new Zero FXE electric bike that will launch in India soon. The brand’s first electric motorcycle, Zero FXE was caught testing on Bengaluru roads with a ‘KA-01’ test number plate.
New Partnership with Hero MotoCorp
Hero MotoCorp has invested $60 million in the US-based Zero Motorcycles company to co-develop electric two-wheelers for the Indian automotive market. The auto giant has a 35% stake in another prominent Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, Ather Energy. Hero Motorcorp’s investment in Zero Motorcycles will make its presence broader in the Indian automotive segment and further strengthen its penetration in the evolving electric vehicle segment.
The Hero-Zero partnership will target the premium electric motorcycle segment in India and expand to developing affordable electric two-wheeler offerings in the country later. Earlier, the auto giant partnered with Harley Davidson to co-develop the world’s smallest Harley for the Indian market. With Zero’s expertise and Hero’s forte in manufacturing and distribution, the two companies will position themselves as the country’s premium brand in the electric mobility segment.
Hero’s First Electric Motorcycle Launch
The annual report from Hero Motocorp sheds light on the official launch of the Zero FXE in India. The automaker will manufacture the electric motorcycle locally and has already begun testing its upcoming e-bike in India with a possible launch coming very soon. Zero Motorcycles offers a range of models with different riding behaviour and styles. The automaker has a model for every type of consumer catering to a wide customer base.
Zero FXE Specifications
The upcoming Zero FXE will sport a large 7.2kWh battery pack offering a range of 170 Km on a single charge and a top speed of 136 Km/h. This collaboration will help with distribution and marketing expertise to launch the electric bike in India. The upcoming Zero FXE will launch in India at around Rs. 10 lakh (Ex-showroom) and be positioned as a premium electric motorcycle for the Indian electric two-wheeler market.
